Have I finished a single piece…*fumfering* a-j.-b…well..u- maybe YOU haven’t finished a single art piece!…I’m sorry, that was uncallled for. Point is, I have a problem with WIPs and I’m gonna make it tumblr’s problem now. 😊
Let’s start off with a little Leafeon sketch. This was supposed to be just a small collection of liquid cat photos as eeveelutions but this one turned out too good and it feels weird to go back to the derp-y ones. Here’s a melted eevee that was supposed to set the tone:
I’ll probably come back to these at some point, but for now into the WIP box they go *crash thud, cats yowl and hiss*, wait no, I’m sorry! Let me cuddle these idiots whilst I show you the next sketch:
Just some basic anatomy quick sketches, but I think it’s interesting to see how I’ve improved at making these sketches looser but more precise.
Next up we have some cloud studies. Not bad, could be better. Should do some more of these to work on my technique.
Then comes the first of the art month challenges that I started and then slowly slumped to the floor with. This was supposed to be #funguary hosted/created by @feefal in which we were to create a character for the mushroom of each daily prompt. I very much wavered between actually doing this and using the prompts to do some studies due to lack of inspiration but still wanting to use the challenge to draw daily.
Day 5 was supposed to be Cordyceps, a parasitic fungus that infests the minds of insects and controls them (Hollow Knight theme plays in the background), a concept which I find wonderfully morbidly fascinating. Despite this, however, on the day, I struggled to come up with anything other than the fungus growing out of a hand. Returning to it the next day though…I realised what an idiot I was and wrote myself a message accordingly.
BUMBLEBEES! I’ll probably post some close ups of these later because I’m really proud of them. They’re not finished, for I must add more bees MORE, but individually they’re pretty finished. I did a test run of them as stickers from Redbubble and they do look lovely. (I’ll try to remember to set them to public at some point 😅)
Regardless, bumblebees (or billies as they are sometimes called in this household) are deeply dear to my heart. I love the feel of their tiny little feet on my hand; I love their soft, fluffy bean-shaped bodies; I love the sound of their wings as they fly past my ear; I love their trusting curious nature (they’ll easily fall asleep on my hand if they’re tired, for I am warm and soft…and will stand half in half out of the rain with a hand cupped over as shelter so that they may fly straight off once they wake…for over half an hour (it was lovely, 10/10, highly recommend)).
Once I have sufficient bees (if there such a thing?) I might add some bee-loved flowers and plants into the mix, so this piece may still take a while until I think of it as finished.
More fanart, kinda?? This was going to be (more obviously) Zagreus’s hand reaching up through the underworld for the surface. It kinda just turned into a hand study, but I may well come back to it to render a bit more; maybe elongate the cavas to emphasise the reach and how far he has left to go and add some more obvious Hades motifs.
Studio Ghibli Ramen Bowl! Still needs some rendering, but I’m pretty darn happy with how it’s turning out. I’ve tried to include lesser known spirits in there as well just to create a more everyday vibe to the piece. They’re just hanging.
Our next art month challenge is Witchtember! Yeah, I got about as far with this one as the previous. 😅 I was far more inspired for what I actually wanted to draw with this one though, only resorting to a plain old study on day 4…wow, I really did not get far. The last one was also to experiment with Devin Elle Kurtz’s brushes (which I shall link here: https://tamberella.gumroad.com). Kurtz continues to be a huge inspiration to me and I hope to one day come, even halfway, close to her skill and ability. ❤️
Last one! My most recent WIP (I started yesterday), I thought I’d try my hand at fan art in the style of the masters. And I figured Bayonetta could go quite well will Klimt. 😊
Based on this piece:
Three Ages of Woman by Gustav Klimt.
They are presumably supposed to be three generations of women, but for some reason I initially interpreted them as the same woman over the course of her life. Hence how Bayonetta fitted the picture perfectly. When I get round to the rendering stage, I think I might add some of the red shattering/crack effects onto Bayo 3 (as we see when she is injured in some of the cut scenes) to add the themes of fragility and death that the age of the elder woman does in Klimt’s piece.
That’s all folks, my art continues to be a hot mess, but maybe sharing that mess with people will help tidy it in my mind. 🥰
